Tour de Crawf – 1 year today so what next?

Post by Shane | June 20, 2014
It's a year ago today that I took off on the TourdeCrawf where I rode my bike from Melbourne to Perth. So I can relate to quirky riding stunts but this week I stumbled across a beauty. I was searching the world wide web (i call it googling) and up came The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) it takes place in over 50 cities around the world. Last weekend saw the annual event take to the streets in all its naked glory! Although here in Australia, we hosted the ride in March (better in Summer than Winter I suppose)? I'm sure all men would do you prepare for such an event? Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 9.25.50 pm TRAINING – the main difference here is that you’ll be competing in all your glory, I’d suggest you get comfortable with the feel. Do a few everyday things in your race suit that will lead to helping on the day. Collect your mail (when no one’s looking). Water the plants (Not in the front yard). Ride your bike (in the backyard). This way you will just feel like it’s all natural and easy. FLAT TYRE – What exactly is the etiquette? The thought of seeing an overweight middle aged hairy man bend over to fix his deflated tyre does not exactly thrill me! I hope people don't mistake his bum for a bike rack. I would suggest that in the case of a flat, ask for help Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 9.25.58 pm SEAT CHOICE – Call me crazy, but even if I’m going on a leisurely ride, it’s important to make sure you have plenty of cushioning and a nice wide base to sit on. I would strongly suggest a wide padded seat for this one, no racing seats, you’ll be exposing some pretty valuable cargo! Also, a nice sheepskin cover could help to stop any potential chafing! DO’S AND DON’TS – Given you’ll be riding with a large group of other free spirited enthusiasts; I thought it might be handy to follow these tips… DO keep eye contact with fellow riders at all times, checking out your fellow attendee’s “equipment“ is not on. DON’T ride out of the saddle! It’s a fun leisurely bike ride…not the ‘Tour De France’! That means there’s no need for it (stay seated). DO have a pair of gloves on hand, you never know when you might have to put your chain back on and you don’t want to be wiping grease anywhere sensitive. DON’T do any stretches before hand especially assuming the dog pose or touching your toes it might scare people away. DO have FUN!! It’s a celebration of freedom and an opportunity to get back to basics and being yourself! These events are always associated with a good cause and help raise money for people that need it. Actually, now that I really have thought about this…maybe that’s what I should be working on for my next challenge? Hmmmm…Skinny Dipping across the Tasman? I wonder what’s the longest distance ever swum nude before? Anyway might see you on next years ride? PS. This is not a riding technique I would suggest!!Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 9.26.05 pm
